The exact origin of Cosmopolitan (or Cosmo) is unfortunately very confused, especially because until the late 1980s there was a very similar drink but called differently (Daisy). A lot of sources attribute the popularity of the Cosmo to Cheryl Cook, a bartender of Miami called “The Martini Queen of South Beach”. She enriched the classic Martini by making it visually more attractive and more popular among women, creating the characteristic pink hue. In addition, the Cosmopolitan was the signature’s cocktail in the 90s for Carrie Bradshaw and her friends from "Sex and the City”.
